Capturing Life’s Stories
A unique perspective through photographic storytelling
35mm Film Photography
Automotive
Automotive photography has been the area where I honed my skills as a photographer, and what takes up most of my spare time during the summer evenings. Whether it be at local car meets, shows across Canada, or at race tracks; whichever event I attend, I bring my camera with me. This side of my photography has evolved over the years toward taking a more photojournalistic approach and at times cinematic, in the desire of creating a story between man and machine.
I really study the cars and pick apart the little details of them; finding the subtleties that the manufacturers and owners have assembled, making their cars individually unique. I like shooting at shows and local meets because it brings a challenge to photographers; to create uncommon angles and perspectives of the often, crowded venues. I try to avoid taking the typical front ¾ shot, (the angle most cars look best in) and get into those hard-to-reach areas. I look at how I can use my environment to my advantage to separate my work from the rest of the photographers and everyone else with a cell phone. This often includes using a crowd of spectators, the surrounding cars, or the natural setting of the site.
With the countless other photographers out there that share the same passion for cars and cameras, I try not to focus on just a photo of a car. But a visual representation of the community and craftsman that brings millions of people together across the globe. I have created so many great friendships through these two passions of mine and strive to display that in my photos.
About me.
Hi there! My name is Adam Soper and I’m super grateful you’ve taken the time to check out my work. I am a 24-year-old from Brant County, Ontario, Canada and I’ve had a knack for taking photos since I was very young. I got my first DSLR camera for my sixteenth birthday and I’ve been hooked ever since.
My shooting style has been described by my peers as; journalistic, light, dreamy, and warming. I take a lot of inspiration from film tones in my editing, creating pastel-like colours. And I try to tell a story through my captures, focusing on context and showcasing details. Although my main focus for the past 5 years has been automotive, I love expanding my horizons; shooting different genres of photography, and using different mediums.
Please enjoy scrolling through some of my best photos and make sure to check out my editorial pieces on the “In My Words” page where I go in-depth on my subjects, also giving more insight into my shooting process. Make sure to follow me on Instagram and Twitter to get regular updates on my work.
Have a wonderful rest of your day,
Adam Soper.
